Surya Chalisa (सूर्य चालीसा) is a 40-verse devotional hymn to Lord Surya — the Sun God, source of all life and energy. Sunday is His day. Reciting Surya Chalisa at dawn, facing East, grants health, eyesight, and divine solar energy.
जय जय जय सूर्य भगवान। करण सहित हरि सुत बलवान॥ कश्यप पुत्र अदिति के लाला। नव ग्रह के तुम हो मतवाला॥
तुम्हारे रथ के घोड़े सात। अरुण सारथी रथ के साथ॥ सात रंग की छटा दिखाओ। सातों लोकों में चमकाओ॥
गायत्री के हो तुम स्वामी। सर्व शक्तिमान अंतर्यामी॥ त्रिकाल संध्या उपासना करते। भक्त जनों की इच्छा भरते॥
आरोग्य दायक हो महाराज। नेत्र रोग हरते हो आज॥ रविवार को जो व्रत करते। सूर्य कृपा से सुख को पाते॥
जो यह सूर्य चालीसा पढ़ें। सब रोग संकट दूर हो जड़ें॥ सूर्य नमस्कार कर प्रातः। पाएं बल बुद्धि तेज यथा॥
Surya Chalisa is a 40-verse prayer dedicated to Lord Surya, the Sun God. Reciting it at sunrise on Sundays is extremely auspicious for health, vitality, and overcoming eye-related ailments.
Surya Chalisa removes diseases (especially eye and skin diseases), grants vitality and strong health, blesses with fame and success, and counteracts the malefic effects of Sun (Surya) in the horoscope.
Face East at sunrise, offer water (Arghya) to the Sun first, then recite Surya Chalisa 1-3 times. Sunday is most auspicious. The Surya Namaskar (12 salutations) can be done before recitation.
