बाल समय रवि भक्षि लियो तब, तीनहुं लोक भयो अंधियारो। ताहि सों त्रास भयो जग को, यह संकट काहु सों जात न टारो॥ देवन आनि करी बिनती तब, छाड़ि दियो रवि कष्ट निवारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि, संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥
बलि की बंध महाबल धारक, लाँघि गयो सागर खारो। मानस में रघुबर छवि बसी, जानकी के दुख सब निवारो॥ लंका जरावनि, सीय सुधि लाई, रघुपति महिमा महिमा के दारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि, संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥

Hanuman Ashtak was composed by Goswami Tulsidas, the great Ram devotee and author of Ramcharitmanas. Tulsidas composed several Hanuman prayers including Hanuman Chalisa, Hanuman Ashtak, and Bajrang Baan.
'Sankatmochan' means 'the remover of obstacles and distress' — 'Sankat' means trouble/obstacle and 'Mochana' means liberation/removal. It is one of the most beloved names of Lord Hanuman.
Hanuman Ashtak is recited on Tuesdays and Saturdays, which are Hanuman's special days. It is also recited on Hanuman Jayanti and whenever one faces serious problems or fears.
