Sunderkand (सुंदरकांड) is the fifth book (kanda) of Valmiki's Ramayana, describing Lord Hanuman's extraordinary journey to Lanka to find Sita Mata. It is the most auspicious section of the Ramayana and is considered a complete prayer in itself. Reciting Sunderkand removes all obstacles, fulfills desires, and brings immense blessings of Hanuman and Ram.
शांत मूर्ति सुमित्रानंदन पंत की जय॥ जय हनुमान ज्ञान गुण सागर। जय कपीश तिहुं लोक उजागर॥
जामवंत के वचन सुहाए। सुनि हनुमंत हृदय हरषाए॥ तब लगि मोहि परिखेहु तुम भाई। सहि दुख कंद मूल फल खाई॥
जब हनुमंत समुद्र लांघे। सोहत मुख मानो रबि आगे॥ लंका निकट गए हनुमंत। देखेन्हि लंका अति सुंदर संत॥
बिनु गह छपन हो सो जाई। देखेउ नगर अति सुंदराई॥ सोने की लंका अति विभूषित। हनुमत मन प्रमुदित उत्साहित॥
सीता माँ को लंका में पाया। हनुमत ने उन्हें ढांढस दिलाया॥ राम की मुद्रिका दिखाई माँ को। संदेश राम का सुनाया सबको॥
अशोक वाटिका उजाड़ दीन्हा। अक्षय कुमार को मार दीन्हा॥ लंका को आग लगाई पूरी। राम काज की कीन्हि मजबूरी॥
Sunderkand is the 5th chapter of Valmiki Ramayana describing Hanuman's journey to Lanka to find Sita Mata. 'Sunder' means beautiful — both describing Hanuman's handsomeness and the beauty of Lanka.
Reciting Sunderkand removes all obstacles from life, fulfills long-pending desires, brings healing, ensures success in difficult tasks, and grants the combined blessings of Lord Hanuman and Lord Rama.
Sunderkand is recited on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and on Hanuman Jayanti. Many devotees do complete Sunderkand path on full moon night or when facing major life challenges.
