Santoshi Maa Chalisa (संतोषी माँ चालीसा) is a 40-verse hymn dedicated to Goddess Santoshi Maa — the goddess of contentment and satisfaction. The famous 1975 film 'Jai Santoshi Maa' made her widely popular. She is worshipped every Friday (Shukravar) with a vrat for fulfillment of wishes.
जय संतोषी माता जय जय। भक्तों के सब संकट हरो माँ॥ सुख शांति और समृद्धि दो। झोली भर दो कृपा से माँ॥
शुक्रवार का व्रत जो करे। संतोषी माँ उनकी सुन ले॥ सोलह शुक्रवार का व्रत करें। माँ मनोकामना पूरी करें॥
गुड़ चना का भोग लगाओ। संतोषी माँ को मनाओ॥ खट्टी चीज का त्याग करो। माँ प्रसन्न हो मनोकामना भरो॥
संसार से संतोष दिलाओ। जीवन में सुखी बनाओ। पार करो भव सागर माँ। कृपालु हो संतोषी माँ॥
Santoshi Maa is the Hindu goddess of contentment and satisfaction, believed to be the daughter of Lord Ganesha. She became extremely popular after the 1975 Bollywood film 'Jai Santoshi Maa' depicted her miraculous powers.
The vrat is observed for 16 consecutive Fridays. On each Friday, fast and offer gur (jaggery) and chana (gram) to the goddess. Do not consume sour food on the vrat day.
Santoshi Maa Chalisa is recited every Friday morning after bath and puja setup. It is especially powerful during the 16-Friday vrat period.
